It wasn't until 1909 that the first Fisher Library opened after the NSW Government funded its construction in 1901. The second Fisher Library was opened in 1963 with a five storey undergraduate wing, to which a nine storey stack was added four years later. Fisher Library. Library. The main library at the University of Sydney named for Thomas Fisher, its major benefactor. It opened in 1909 in the south-western corner of the Quadrangle. In 1962 it moved to a new building adjacent to Victoria Park, the original reading room being renamed MacLaurin Hall.

Fisher Library is the largest and first branch of the library system, located on Eastern Avenue on the Camperdown Campus, adjacent to Victoria Park. The Fisher Library is for University of Sydney students and staff. Its collection focuses on humanities, social science and commercial disciplines.

Fisher Library bookable desks are located on Level 3 at south end of the floor near the toilets, overlooking Victoria Park. Bookings can be made up to 48 hours in advance and can be booked for up to 3 hours at a time and maximum twice per day per site. Please note- the same desk cannot be booked twice consecutively.
